Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT)

What is Neurologic Music Therapy?Neurologic Music Therapy is the application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor function due to neurologic disease of the human nervous system.

How are Neurologic Music Therapists trained?

NMT’s are trained through the Center for Biomedical Research in Music located at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado.  Only certified or accredited music therapists may earn the title of NMT, although other health care professionals may attend the training institute.  The institute involves 30 hours of intensive instruction and practice of NMT techniques.  Topics covered include:

  • Kinematic Analysis
  • Gait Assessment
  • Sensorimotor Training
  • Cognitive Training
  • Speech and Language Training
