ABOUT BETH

Photo of Beth www.julievoice.com Beth Clark is an accredited (MTA) and board certified (MT-BC) music therapist in private practice in Vancouver. She holds a Master’s degree in Music Therapy Western Michigan University, 2007) and Music Education (The University of Maine, 2000).

Beth currently works with a number of organizations, schools and individuals in the Vancouver area, providing individual and group music therapy services for children and youth. She practices with children and youth who have a variety of needs, including bereavement care, palliative care, deaf/hard of hearing, autism/pervasive developmental disorders, mental health issues and youth at-risk.

Past experience working with children and youth include developing music therapy programming for preschool children in a speech/language clinic, facilitating rhythm-based music therapy groups for youth at a secure detention facility, and providing individual and group music therapy services for youth in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. Prior to entering the field of music therapy, Beth worked as a music educator, youth outreach worker and youth case manager.

Throughout her music therapy career, Beth has presented on her work at local, national and international workshops and conferences. Recent conference presentations include the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (2006, 2007), the American Music Therapy Association (2004, 2005, 2008), the Canadian Counselling Association (2007) and the International Federation of Hard of Hearing People (2008).

Beth engages her clients with a variety of musical interventions including improvisation, songwriting, drumming, singing, instrumental playing, relaxation, and integrating music with other creative arts. She provides direct services and workshops, and is available on a consultant basis in the greater Vancouver area.
